Threds was founded in 1994 by University of Tennessee students, Kelby Shymlock and Keith Phillips. Originally a popular retail store that targeted high school and college students, Threds made a name for itself selling Vintage Levis, a huge trend at the time. It also produced custom T-shirts for a variety of small business.
By 1996, custom screen printing had become Threds’ main focus. It quickly acquired a reputation for great artwork, quick turnarounds and outstanding customer service. Threds continued to increase its capabilities, and as its clients became more diverse, so did its talents. By 1997, it had added embroidery and promotional products to its offerings. Then, in 2000, it acquired Adprints, thereby becoming a full service promotional product company. Threds added a sampling of fulfillment services in 2002, and in addition to warehousing and handling customer service issues, it now sets up retail-based Web sites for its clients.
Today, Threds delivers products to more than 68 countries. Its founders attribute their success to the ability to evolve with clients needs. From its humble beginnings as a 900-square-foot store, Threds has grown into a 30,000-square-foot facility offering a wide range of products and services. Threds is thankful for its clients, big and small, and looks forward to the opportunity to grow with them for years to come.
